Frying with Olive Oil, unlike other oils is able to endure high temperatures. When fried at the right temperature, the oil forms a protective crust, and helps the food to preserve it moisture. Frying with olive oil is much healthier too. For battered, floured or breadcrumb-coated foods, fry between 310-340ºF (155ºC-170ºC). For deep-frying, raise temperature to 350-375ºF (180-190ºC). Use plenty of oil. Generally about 2 1/2".

Baking with Virgin or Olive oil is a fine alternative to butter. Choose one with a mild flavour. Olive oil retains the moisture in baked goods such as bread, cakes or muffins and also preserves it for longer.

Olive oil and cosmetics

Olive oil plays an important role in cosmetics now and even more so in prehistoric times. Ancient Greeks used to bathe in olive oil, to moisturise dry skin. Today, more and more people are substituting their moisturisers with natural home recipes. Applying olive oil to dry patches such as on the elbows, knees or feet can help to skin regain its natural oil balance due to the antioxidant properties in olive oil, it protects the skin from harmful and damaging reactions and therefore slows down the ageing process, i.e. dryness causing the skin to wrinkle. What is more, it’s a great way to save money and it’s totally natural!
